Xenopus Electronix FAQ

Where are we located?
We are located in Austin, TX.

How do I choose?
Our products have a range of wavelengths, features, and prices. It can be confusing knowing which flashlight is best suited for a specific application. If you have a need for a UV flashlight, then you can choose between a single wavelength model or one that has selectable wavelengths. As the wavelength decreases, two things happen -- the contrast is improved, and the price of the LEDs increases. If you have a wavelength specification from the supplier of a dye product, then follow their recommendation if possible. The more LEDs, the more UV power is emitted (with the exception of the xLamp models, where each LED die is very powerful). For applications where you require "three tools in one", for example white, blue, and ultraviolet, then look at the Crime Scene Edition. Tracking blood? Then look at the BloodTracker.

Do I need regulated output?
If you have a requirement for consistent UV output power over the life or charge of the batteries, or a requirement for reproducibility, then a regulated model with a -R2 in the part number is what you are looking for. Non regulated models are very bright with fresh batteries, but as the batteries discharge, the output will decrease. The advantage of regulated modules is consistent output; the advantage of non-regulated modules is that many more hours of usable output can be obtained from a set of batteries, which may be more important in the field.

Why are only alkaline cells supported in non-regulated models?
Alkaline cells have a higher nominal voltage than reghargable NiCd and NiMH cells. The non-regulated modules have been designed for alkaline cells. Although they will work with rechargeable cells, customers may be disappointed in the slightly reduced light output due to the lower nominal voltage. For this reason, we state "Alkaline Cells Only" in non-regulated models. Regulated modules have been designed for use with both rechargeable and primary (disposable) cells.

Yes, although you will have to select DHL or EMS shipping options, and shipping prices may vary from those advertised to some countries. Please email if in doubt so as to verify.

Is there a printed catalog?
At this time, we do not offer a printed catalog. We are adding products and new designs regularly, so the website is the best place to go for current information. The complete list of available products is available in the pricelist, downloadable from the homepage.
